Waste Collection Schedule
Between November 2024 and March 2025 (inclusive), residents will need to use the online version of the bin collection calendar to check which bins are scheduled for collection. For Friday collections, this can be downloaded from here (PDF file, 1 page), although the definitive method is to go to stockport.gov.uk/find-your-collection-day and then enter your postcode to get the download link.
It is understood that in the next financial year (starting April 2025), the familiar "card" version of the bin collection calendar will return and will again continue be delivered to residents' homes.
Brown Bin Changes
From October 2024, the following additional items can go into brown wheelie bins:
- plastic pots (such as yoghurt, soup and hair gel containers)
- plastic tubs (such as margarine, chocolate and laundry powder containers)
- plastic trays (such as containers for cooked or raw meat, and fruit and veg punnets)
For the full list of acceptable items for brown bins (or black boxes), see stockport.gov.uk/what-you-can-put-in-your-bins/brown-bin-or-black-box, remembering to make sure all items are empty and have been cleaned, and don't include any lids from bottles or jars.
As a reminder, the previous list for brown bins was restricted to:
- glass bottles
- glass jars
- food tins
- drinks cans
- empty aerosols
- plastic bottles
